Fall 2026 Reboot

It’s been more than 2 1/2 years since my last post, so it must be time for yet another reboot. I’d like to say that this time will be different from the previous times that I’ve tried to get into a posting groove, but only time will tell.

I’m in a somewhat interesting place with my golf life. I’m truly in the meatiest part of the sandwich generation, where much of my non-work time is consumed by the demands of both a teenager and my parents who are in their 80’s. One saving grace from a golf perspective is that I found and joined a golf group in my parent’s area that has monthly events.

Initially, I thought the group may help force me to visit my parents more often. I had only been visiting every few months and felt like that wasn’t enough. For the first few months, I made the monthly trips down for the events and it worked out great for everyone. When one parent took a turn for the worse though, my visits became almost weekly. At that point the golf events provided a much needed monthly respite to the visits as I could also get in a round of golf with new friends before driving back home.

I now have a week long vacation from work coming up soon where I’ll stay with my parents to help in the evenings, and play as much golf as I can during the day. The group I joined has a very active group chat, and it seems like even during the week there is usually someone looking for a game almost every day. While I certainly have enjoyed the vast majority of people I’ve been randomly been paired when when playing as a single, I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to arrange several rounds with people from the group.

My game seems to be in a pretty good place right now. I’m finally emerging from a several-month project at work that’s allowed me to start playing a bit more in the evenings after work. With just a couple of months until the clocks change, I’m hopeful to be able to piece together a full round each week after work.

I seem to have settled in with a particular swing feel that’s getting pretty solid results over the last couple of weeks, and I’ve shot right at my handicap in my last three rounds. I’ve played long enough to know that this could well be fleeting, so I’m doing my best to temper my expectations and just enjoy the good results while they’re happening. The index is currently sitting at a 14.2, which feels pretty solid given the array of constraints (many self-imposed) that I currently deal with.
